Well… Unscatter.com is starting to shape up. Based off the feedback I got, more people were using it as a news source than a search engine. So, it’s moving in that direction. It no longer returns web search results at all, though as I work on the interface I may still make that an option built into the UI.

Currently I’m working on the overall UI. I’m building tabs into it, and they may become one of defining features of the public news search. More on that later once I’m done implementing them.

The public search has always been a feature that came out of what I really want to do with Unscatter. I haven’t lost focused on the fact I really want to create a business to business product offering, and that will start to show over time. The public search however is shaping up into something that I believe will be a valuable product on it’s own, as such I’m focusing on it more right now. It is the first thing people will see.

So, what’s the focus now then? Well if you go to Unscatter.com now you will see a tag line that says “Find the latest about anything”. That will soon change to “Find and share the latest about anything”. The social stream search results will become widgets you can include on your own pages. Those widgets will also be configurable in such a way as you can use them to share information from just your accounts if you wish. The tab based UI I mentioned above will also become a larger part of the ability to share news searches with your friends as well.

On a personal note, I’m still pretty sleepy. My youngest daughter turns 6 weeks old tomorrow. If you’re a parent, you know how it is. Nothing is shaping up fast right now, but in a few months I’ll be registering a company and hopefully have at the public and free products available and in a state that I feel the product is worthy of standing on it’s own. It does look like I’ll be running on my own for a while, I’ve looked into Angel List and Kickstarter and I wasn’t interesting enough for the first and wasn’t what the latter was looking to help out with. Not complaining, it’s just the state of things as it is right now.
